  1. INTERIOR: CLIMATE AND WEATHER

  3. In Alaska's northern interior, you can expect to en-
  4. counter warm, dry summers interspersed with rain or
  5. drizzle. The winters are cold, dry, and severe. South
  6. of Fairbanks, there is often rain during the summer.
  7. At Denali National Park and Preserve, the temperature
  8. ranges from 43 to 66 degrees F in Summer. Record temp-
  9. eratures for the month of July are 23 and 87 degrees
  10. F. Throughout most of the Interior, both winter and
  11. summer temperatures are subject to extremes. In moun-
  12. tainous areas, it may snow any time of the year. It
  13. is also in Alaska's interior that tremendous thunder
  14. storms take place. These storms may or may not produce
  15. rain, but the lightning causes many wildfires. As you
  16. travel south from the Brooks Range to the Alaska Range,
  17. the length of summer days (& winter nights) decreases.
